CV Mistakes You Dont Want to Make

Your CV is the most important marketing tool that you have to sell your skills and accomplishments. A curriculum vitae it the most vital tool used by job seekers when looking for a new job. When looking for a great job, you can`t expect to find it by using a weak CV to market your unique skills. CV`s need to attract attention, create a lasting impression and communicate your skills and achievements in the most attractive way possible.

Pay close attention to detail when preparing your CV application. Be aware of common blunders made on CV`s and how to avoid them. There is nothing worse than a job seeker who attempts to fill a job vacancy using a CV with silly mistakes in it. You can`t expect an employer to consider your job application when your CV is riddled with common mistakes. Pay close attention to the presentation, layout, spelling, grammar and content when preparing your CV. The most common CV mistakes are found in places so obvious that if they were a snake they`d reach out and bite you. Don`t make daft errors on your CV, while these will get you noticed, they surely won`t get you the job.

 CV Presentation Blunders.

Imagine what it must be like receiving hundreds of CV applications a day. The loud, multi coloured sheets of paper will get your CV noticed; noticed in the trash can with the other applications that weren`t taken seriously. You cannot expect to make a professional first impression by using loud or "pretty "CV stationary. Make sure you don`t make the mistake of using unusual fonts in various colours and sizes; this does not work in any job application. Clip art and other paraphernalia you are using to differentiate your CV should be reserved for scrapbooking and not for serious job applications.

CV Layout Mistakes.

Your CV needs to be clear from clutter, visually appealing and attract attention.  Recruiters and employers are not mine sweepers, if the information doesn`t talk to them directly; your CV isn`t going to communicate anything at all. One of the biggest mistakes made in CV applications is writing a lot of content which communicates nothing relevant about your skill and accomplishments. Words were created to communicate messages.  Language is used to relay relevant information. Don`t make the mistake of filling your CV with irrelevant content that doesn`t sell your skills and expertise. Be sure to make use of bullet points, underline and bolding to express emphasis on relevant points. Make it easy for recruiters to find the information that will secure you a job interview. Another key point to pay attention to is the use of language found in your CV. Be sure to learn a few action words or action verbs to make use of in your CV application. The use of such language will precisely describe the point you wish to make and highlight your keen knowledge and understanding of the topic.

Common Spelling and Grammar mistakes found in CV`s

Many people say Imp pedantic whith lagwage, while thay r intitled to there opinion, nothing removes from the fact that this centance is ebarrasing its so bad. Common spelling errors and basic grammar mistakes found in your CV are inexcusable. A sure way to blow your chances of securing an interview for a position that could potentially be your dream job is by using poor language, incorrect spelling and inaccurate grammar. Yes we are human and making mistakes from time to time happens to the best of us. While this is so, would you hire someone who submitted a CV with mistakes similar to those I have made above? Nope, I didn`t think so. Spell check is one of the tools that "Bill" got right. While you should try not to rely on your spell check, if you have a problem with spelling - which many people have, - make friends with your spell checker and please don`t be shy to use it. Nothing is less appealing than a job applicant who fails to follow basic english rules. Often, after spending some time working on the same document your eyes tend to miss such errors.

Highlighting Irrelevant Information in your CV.

The purpose of a CV is to emphasise and market your unique selling points. A common mistake made when preparing a CV is when job seekers highlight tasks and duties. While this may sound like the correct thing to do in your CV, it in fact is not. Rather try to concentrate on detailing the unique accomplishments you have made and skills you have acquired. By detailing such information you are expressing your expertise and unique knowledge of the matter. Your employer may be familiar with common tasks that are performed within a certain role but they want to know what is unique to you. Always try to personalise your role by describing talents abilities ad accomplishments exclusive to you.

Remember that the purpose of your CV is that of a marketing document that should be distinctively tailored to express your uniqueness as an employee. You are the product and your CV is the brochure, now how do you plan to sell yourself. All common mistakes found in a CV can be avoided. Learn from other job seekers CV mistakes and be sure to eliminate these from your CV before applying to your potential job vacancy.
